Hob is for people who like the Claude or ChatGPT desktop apps but would rather keep the model on their own machine. On first launch it picks an open-weight model that fits your hardware (Gemma 4 or gpt-oss for now), and it can write sandboxed Python, search the web through SearXNG, use MCP and work offline. The maker says chats and files never leave your system; web search can be switched off, and any MCP connectors you add do go online. How good it feels will depend on your hardware, since a local model is only as capable as the machine running it. Source
